Our Curriculum
Jiu-Jitsu/Self-Defense/Martial Blade Concepts
Our self-defense training program is based around the six primary elements of Jiu-Jitsu. Although there is a modern sport form of Jiu-Jitsu the art was developed as a form of unarmed combat and self-defense. The major components of Jiu-Jitsu are:
Blocking and Evasion
A critical element of all martial arts and self-defense training is avoiding or stopping an incoming attack. Basic blocking skills are taught along with the importance of incorporating proper evasive movements.
Striking
Jiu-Jitsu utilizes both hard and soft techniques. You learn how to use your whole body as a weapon including your hands, feet, head, elbows, knees, etc. You will learn how to establish a solid base from which to utilize proper striking techniques.
Throws
Our training involves learning a wide assortment of the throwing techniques, the type of throws (fulcrum and non-fulcrum) practiced in Judo and  Aikido.
Escaping
Many altercations result in a grappling situation where you are grabbed by an attacker. You will learn about your personal "Cone of Strength" and how to use proper technique to escape from any type of grab.
Pin Arts
Pinning is the practice of immobilizing an attacker's hands, arms, legs or head and using the pinning of that extremity to control the attacker. There are a multitude of pinning techniques that can be applied to control an attacker through the application of very painful joint locks that can be applied with minimal force.
Filipino Stick & Knife Fighting
Filipino stick (single and double stick) and knife fighting compliment our empty hand training.. Martial Blade Concepts, developed by renown edged weapons specialist Michael Janich, is one fo the most advanced methods of utilizing a tactical folding knife as a self-defense tool. The best way to learn to defend against a weapon is to learn how to use the weapon.
